Projects

  1. We received a $2,500 grant from the National Council of Jewish Women, Cleveland Section, to train 25 mothers of children with Autism to use Reiki on themselves and their children. Twenty-seven (27) participating mothers gave remarkable reports of improved sleeping, less agitation, better focus, improved behaviors and an increased attention span of the children with Autism. These promising results have led to discussions for formal research projects using Reiki with this special needs population.

  2. RROH has been providing Reiki services for four years on a monthly basis to staff members at the headquarters of Hospice of the Western Reserve in Cleveland. Five RROH Reiki masters provide fifteen minute upper body treatments to an average of 32 staff members who wish to receive it. Staff members in the Financial Department, the Clinical Team and the Clinical Referral staff are eligible to participate in the project. Reiki services are paid for by the hosting hospice facility. Staff members report decrease in stress and pain, increase in energy and focus and a sense of well-being which carries throughout the day. The Reiki treatments are part of the wellness program provided for staff by Hospice of the Western Reserve .

  3. RROH is providing free Reiki One classes to parents/caregivers of children with Autism through generous grants from the Breakfast Club of Beachwood, Ohio. The Breakfast Club was founded by Cheryl Garson and Debi Kortanek for women to join forces to provide a forum for and a direct impact on non-profit organizations in the Cleveland area  which have special products or services to  offer. Thank you to these blessed women who are helping us to give the empowering tool of Reiki to these moms and dads.

Research

1) We received a $48,000 grant from the Mt. Sinai Health Care Foundation, Cleveland, and completed training 198 caregivers of loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia residing in northern Ohio. This was done in collaboration with the Alzheimer’s Association, Cleveland Are Chapter. In this project, research on the effects of Reiki on caregivers was conducted by Case Western Reserve University School of Nursing.results

2) RROH is collaborating with the University Hospital Department of Dermatology in a research project designed to investigate the effects of Reiki on patients with psoriasis. Participating patients are being randomly selected for inclusion in a group receiving Reiki classes from RROH or a group receiving relaxation training techniques from University staff. The hypothesis is that because stress is known to exacerbate the psoriasis condition, Reiki relaxation being self-administered daily may improve the condition. One class has been completed with promising positive results of Reiki use reported by the University staff and participating patients.
